When I started Purple Rain Adventure Skirts 12 years ago, my ‘why’ was to be my own boss and stay home with my young son. Plus I dreaded the idea of writing another cover letter.
Over the years, my ‘why’ has grown much deeper than that. Yes, I still relish the time I get with my son, and also it’s so much more.
I want to empower people to find their strength and confidence through a connection with nature. Great gear and clothing empowers people to get outside, and getting outside matters.
My favorite part of running Purple Rain Adventure Skirts is hearing from customers. When people stop by my booth at trail events or send me photos, I hear stories of smiling, happy, confident people proud of who they are and what they’ve overcome and accomplished.
Whether thru-hiking, backpacking or day hiking, my skirts, kilts and dresses empower people to pursue their dreams. Through the journey people cultivate healthy bodies and souls. I absolutely love it when people love themselves, especially women.
When I was 30 years old, I quit my job, sold all my belongings and flew across the country to hike the Appalachian Trail. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. The confidence I found on that trail is how I ultimately embarked on this solo entrepreneurship endeavor.
The journey to find yourself does not end. It keeps evolving through love, loss, friendship, parenting, and the miles hiked between to process it all. The literal ups and downs of the trail mimic the rollercoaster of life.
Twelve years is a long time to own a business. I’m not the same person I was when I started this. But one thing is still the same, after a long day on trail I keep coming back to the same feeling…I got this. And, you my friend, got this too!
Here’s to life’s adventures, on and off the trail.
